Chennai Super Kings’ campaign in IPL 2022 was not particularly successful. Chennai, who entered the tournament as the previous year’s champions, finished the campaign ninth in the points table. Ravindra Jadeja was handed the captaincy in place of the legendary MS Dhoni just a few days before CSK’s first match. However, as their season did not go as expected, Dhoni was seen returning to the captaincy.
The incident of captaincy change was one of the most discussed topics of IPL 2022. But another incident also came to the attention of many. Irish bowler Josh Little joined CSK as a net bowler. However, left the team just two weeks after joining. Little has now opened up about the reason. He says he was being used as a “net bowler” only when other bowlers were getting “tired”.
“I was now told something that wasn’t really there. Before leaving I was told that I am a net bowler and if anyone gets injured I have a chance to play. But I couldn’t bowl when I wanted to, I’d get two overs [in practice] and think, ‘I’ve come half way around the world to be here for two overs!’ Maybe I was naive. I played in the Lankan Premier League and T-10s, I was having a good year,” Little told Cricbuzz.
“I was an international cricketer, it just didn’t feel right. Other guys were keen to get involved because they had never had that experience. When I found out I was a net bowler who needed to bowl only when everyone else was tired, I was Like, ‘Get me out of here.’ That’s probably why they’ll never hire me because I left two weeks later,” he added.
Josh Little may get a chance at a new franchise for IPL 2023
The young bowler registered his name for the IPL 2023 auction to be held in Kochi on Friday, December 23. Little has so far taken 62 wickets in 53 T20Is. Recently former Chennai Super Kings player Suresh Raina heaped praise on Little.
This year Little played for Manchester Originals in The Hundred and represented Deccan Gladiators in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. He also has a hat-trick in T20 World Cup 2022.
