Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar credits left-arm spinner Akshar Patel for the success of the Delhi Capitals bowling department. He felt that the characters remained hidden from the publicity most of the time. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar said Akshar has been overtaking senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin since the England Test series at home. He thinks that the batsmen are getting out of his ball without being able to catch the subtle variety of characters.

Manjrekar said, “Akshar is an experienced spinner. Akshar was more successful than Ashwin against England in the spin wicket this year. There’s still something in character bowling that we haven’t seen. Earlier, he was considered as an all-rounder. But he needs to improve his batting. Look at improving the batting by building the confidence of good bowling. But his bowling is improving day by day. Besides taking wickets, he is also giving less runs. In the previous match, he took 3 wickets against a team like Mumbai Indians. ”

Not only in the Test series, Akshar has also left Ashwin behind in the IPL. He has got 21 wickets in 23 innings from 2020 IPL with an average of 24.6 and an economy rate of 6.35. There, Ashwin has taken only 18 wickets in 24 innings with an average of 36.94 and an economy rate of 6.60.

The characters are fascinated by the subtle variety

The same tune is in the throat of West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite. He also thinks that the characters are fascinated by the subtle variety. He seemed to use the crease and his own height very cleverly, even though the character didn’t have a second or strong arm force.

Brathwaite, who won the T20 World Cup, said: Character bowling is quite stressful even if you don’t have a second or deadly arm ball. The characters are getting so much success without turning too many balls. ”
