বোর্ড অফ কন্ট্রোল ফর ক্রিকেট ইন ইন্ডিয়া (বিসিসিআই) বৃহস্পতিবার (৩০শে জুন) ইংল্যান্ডের বিরুদ্ধে আসন্ন ওডিআই এবং টি-টোয়েন্টি সিরিজের জন্য ভারতের স্কোয়াড ঘোষণা করেছে। টি-২০ সিরিজের জন্য দুটি আলাদা স্কোয়াড ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে, একটি প্রথম টি-২০র জন্য এবং অন্যটি দ্বিতীয় এবং তৃতীয় টি-২০র জন্য।
স্কোয়াডটি আপাতদৃষ্টিতে শক্তিশালী দেখাচ্ছে এবং যোগ্য খেলোয়াড়দেরই বাছাই করা হয়েছে, কিন্তু স্কোয়াডের শেষ দুই ম্যাচ থেকে যে খেলোয়াড়দের বাদ দেওয়া হয়েছে তাঁদের মধ্যে একজনের বাদ পড়া নিয়ে আলোচনা হচ্ছে এবং তিনি হলেন সঞ্জু স্যামসন। সদ্য সমাপ্ত আয়ারল্যান্ড সিরিজের সময় ব্যাট হাতে ৭৭ রানের ইনিংস খেললেও এই দুর্দান্ত ব্যাটারকে কেবলমাত্র প্রথম টি-টোয়েন্টির স্কোয়াডে রাখা হয়েছে, তবে দ্বিতীয় ও তৃতীয় ম্যাচের দলে নেই তিনি।
স্যামসনের পাশাপাশি, রুতুরাজ গায়কওয়াড়, রাহুল ত্রিপাঠী, ভেঙ্কটেশ আইয়ার এবং অর্শদীপ সিংকে দ্বিতীয় ও তৃতীয় টি-টোয়েন্টি স্কোয়াড থেকে বাদ দেওয়া হয়েছে। গায়কওয়াড় আয়ারল্যান্ড সিরিজে ব্যাট করেননি এবং দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা সিরিজেও খুব একটা চিত্তাকর্ষক ছিলেন না। ত্রিপাঠী ও অর্শদীপ এখনও তাঁদের আন্তর্জাতিক অভিষেক করতে পারেননি এবং ভেঙ্কটেশ গত বছরের শেষের দিকে সুযোগ পাওয়ার পর নিয়মিত দলে থাকলেও সম্প্রতিশার্দিক পান্ডিয়া পেস বোলিং অলরাউন্ডার হিসেবে নিয়মিত খেলায় ভেঙ্কটেশ একাদশে জায়গা পাচ্ছেন না।
অন্য চারজনকে বাদ দেওয়ার একটি স্পষ্ট ব্যাখ্যা পাওয়া গেলেও স্যামসনের বহিষ্কার অনেকের কাছে ধাক্কা ছিল। তিনি আয়ারল্যান্ডের বিরুদ্ধে প্রথম টি-টোয়েন্টির একাদশের অংশ ছিলেন না, তবে গায়কওয়াড় কাফ মাসলের চোটের কারণে দ্বিতীয় ম্যাচ থেকে বাদ পড়লে দলের ওপেনার হিসাবে তাঁর রাস্তা খোলে।

স্যামসন তাঁর ওপেনিং সঙ্গী ঈশান কিষাণকে প্রথম দিকেই হারানোর পর দীপক হুডার সাথে একটি দুর্দান্ত ১৭৬ রানের পার্টনারশিপ গড়েছিলেন এবং জাতীয় দলে তাঁর প্রত্যাবর্তন সূচিত করেছিলেন কেরিয়ারের সেরা স্কোর ৭৭ রান করে। স্যামসন আইপিএল ২০২২-এও বেশ চিত্তাকর্ষক ফর্মে ছিলেন, কিন্তু তারপরে আয়োজিত হওয়া দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা সিরিজে তাঁকে নেওয়া হয়নি।
এখন যেহেতু তিনি ভালো ফর্মে আছেন, তাঁকে খেলার বাইরে রাখা নেটিজেনরা ভালোভাবে নেয়নি। অধিনায়ক হার্দিক পান্ডিয়া যখন দ্বিতীয় টি-২০তে জানিয়েছিলেন দলে জায়গা পেয়েছেন স্যামসন, সেই সময় ভক্তদের মধ্যে যে উল্লাস দেখা গিয়েছিল তা থেকেই প্রমাণিত হয় যে সারা বিশ্বের ভারতীয় ভক্তরা তাঁকে কতটা পছন্দ করেন।
